Prerequisites

  1. Telekom account with an active MagentaTV subscription (free tier works but limits live channels).

  2. Internet connection – at least 5 Mbps download for HD, 25 Mbps for 4K. Test it with the guide on How to Check Internet Speed on all your devices.

  3. Supported device –

    • Samsung Smart TV (2016 or newer) or any TV running Tizen that shows a Samsung App Store.

    • Android TV (version 5.0 Lollipop or newer) – includes Sony, Philips, TCL, etc.

    • Amazon Fire TV, Apple TV, or the dedicated MagentaTV Stick/Box (these have the app pre‑installed).

  4. Remote control with a functional Enter/OK button.

  5. Latest TV firmware – update via Settings → System → Software update before starting.

The login flow is identical to the Samsung/Android TV steps.

Common Issues & Troubleshooting

1. App not found in the store

  • Verify your TV model meets the minimum OS version (Samsung 2016+, Android 5.0+).

  • Update firmware (Settings → About → Software update).

  • If still missing, the device may be region‑locked; MagentaTV is only available in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland.

2. Login fails ("Invalid credentials")

  • Double‑check the email and password on a computer via the Telekom portal.

  • Ensure your account has an active MagentaTV subscription; free accounts can only view limited content.

  • Reset the password using the Forgot password? link on the login screen.

3. No picture or audio after selecting a channel

  • Confirm the TV is connected to the internet (run a speed test with the guide on How to Check Internet Speed on all your devices).

  • Restart the TV and the MagentaTV app.

  • If you are using a Wi‑Fi connection, try moving the router closer or switch to a wired Ethernet cable.

4. App crashes or freezes

  • Clear the app cache: Settings → Apps → MagentaTV → Clear cache (Android TV) or Delete data and reinstall (Samsung).

  • Ensure the TV’s storage is not full; delete unused apps if necessary.

  • Update the app via the store; the latest version fixes many stability bugs.

5. Subscription limits (free vs. paid)

  • The free tier only offers a selection of live channels and on‑demand titles. Premium live channels (e.g., Sky, RTL) require a paid MagentaTV package.

  • Inside the app, go to Settings → Account → Subscription to see which tiers you have access to.

Verifying Completion

  1. Open MagentaTV and navigate to My Profile → Account. Your subscription name (e.g., MagentaTV Premium) should be displayed.

  2. Play at least one live HD channel and one on‑demand video. Both should start without buffering after a few seconds.

  3. Return to the TV’s Home screen; the MagentaTV icon should now be listed among your favorite apps for quick access.
