Switch the leftmost Home screen feed to Google Discover: touch and hold a blank area on the Home screen, swipe right to the feed selector, and tap Google Discover. Samsung News is scheduled to shut down on December 21, 2026, at 00:00 UTC, so the service may still be available before then.[3]

Before you start

  • You need a Galaxy phone or tablet that offers Google Discover. Availability varies by country, carrier, and model.

  • Samsung’s instructions describe switching between Discover and Samsung News; they do not specify a subscription fee or paid tier. They also do not promise that Discover is available on every Galaxy device.

  • Samsung says Google Discover is active by default on Galaxy phones and tablets, but you may need to switch back if Samsung News is currently selected.

  • Google Discover personalizes its feed using your search and browsing history. Samsung says you can choose preferred updates in the Google app or Google Chrome.

  1. Go to your Galaxy Home screen.

  2. Touch and hold an empty area of the screen until the Home screen enters editing mode.

  3. Swipe right to the leftmost Home screen page. On supported devices, the page shows the Google Discover and Samsung News choices.

  4. Tap Google Discover.

  5. Return to the Home screen and swipe right. The Google Discover feed should now appear.

For Samsung’s illustrated instructions and availability notes, see Google Discover on Galaxy phones and tablets.

What to expect on different Galaxy models

The selector’s availability depends on the country, carrier, and model. Samsung lists both services on a number of models, including Galaxy S21–S25, Galaxy Z Fold2–Z Fold6, Galaxy Z Flip2–Z Flip6, and selected Galaxy A phones and Tab models. That list does not establish support for every Galaxy device or software version. If you do not see Discover in the selector, check Samsung’s support information for your exact model rather than assuming the app can be added.

Samsung also notes that, on the Galaxy S24 series, Google’s policy restricts Discover for account users under 13. Age restrictions may differ by country and can change with Google policy.

Personalize the feed

Swipe right from the Home screen to open Discover. Samsung says you can choose preferred updates in either the Google app or Chrome. The supplied instructions do not give a specific settings path inside those apps, so use their current in-app controls rather than relying on a guessed menu sequence.

Discover’s feed is personalized from search and browsing history. If you prefer not to use a personalized feed, Samsung’s documented alternative is to turn off the Home screen feed; its instructions do not describe a way to use Discover without personalization.

If Google Discover does not appear

Check whether the Home screen feed is enabled

Touch and hold a blank area of the Home screen, then swipe right to the feed page. Samsung says a switch at the top turns the feed services on or off. If both services are off, turn the switch on, then select Google Discover if the choice appears.

Check model and regional availability

If the page or Discover choice is missing, availability may vary by model, carrier, or country. Samsung’s support page is the source for its current device guidance; contact Samsung through the support options on that page if the menu differs on your device.

Do not confuse switching with uninstalling

Samsung says Google Discover and Samsung News cannot be deleted through these Home screen controls. You can switch between them, or turn off the feed services so they no longer appear when you swipe right. Turning them off is not the same as uninstalling an app.

Verify the change

Return to the Home screen and swipe right. Google Discover, rather than Samsung News, should open. If the Samsung News page still appears, repeat the selection steps and confirm that Discover is chosen in the leftmost-page selector. Samsung’s instructions describe this as a Home screen feed selection, not a transfer of Samsung News settings or subscriptions.
